Studs

DEFINITION

Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetur adipiscing elit. Ut elit tellus, luctus nec ullamcorper mattis, pulvinar dapibus leo.

EXPLANATION

The vertical supports, known as studs in the construction industry are required by city coding to be at or below 16 inches apart. Between the studs, a short piece of wood is put in place called the fire stop.

Studs hold windows, exterior sheathing, doors, utilities and insulation along with aiding in giving a structure its shape. In case of severe natural disasters, studs are stuck to plates using ties that will allow the building to withstand extreme weather conditions.

Properties and Studs

In the U.S. as well as Canada, studs are typically constructed of wood and can either be 16 or 12 inches from each other’s center. The wood used for the studs is required to be dry when being used as problems may arise with a wet stud beginning to shrink and diminish once they begin to dry.

Steel studs are beginning to pick up speed as they are a requirement for any firewall that is going to be installed.
