Gutter

DEFINITION

Slit found along the roof line used to eliminate water from the roof.

EXPLANATION

Many houses have gutters situated on the roof to prevent excess buildup of water on the roof. Without a gutter, many architectural styles would not be able to adequately remove water from a roof. The gutter increases the roof’s life and provides safety for the property owner. The gutter located on the side of the roof captures the water and makes it go down through a downspout. A downspout is a pipe located on the exterior of a building, beginning on the side of a roof.
