Bracing

DEFINITION

Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetur adipiscing elit. Ut elit tellus, luctus nec ullamcorper mattis, pulvinar dapibus leo.

EXPLANATION

Bracing is the system used to support structures in construction settings.

After bracing, a building’s internal structure is bolstered to contribute to its ability to resist seismic activity or other potentially damaging forces.

Essentially, bracing helps to ensure that a building will remain standing when faced with natural disasters, like earthquakes or heavy winds.

Types of Bracing

There are different types of bracing techniques, according to the type of area.

For example, an area faced with high amounts of seismic activity would require buildings to be built with more extensive bracing design.

On the other hand, an area like Chicago, which faces heavy winds and is not considered to be an active seismic region, would have buildings reinforced with other elements, like steel, which are more tailored to the activity of the area.

Within a braced structure, the design may require various braces to have tension while the other is looser, depending on the type of forces the building may be subject to in the area.

This method helps to create a resilient and strong building structure, more suitable to resist lateral effects.
